Pier Head 'Fan Zone' for World Cup semi-final

Watch Croatia vs England at the Pier Head

LIVERPOOL is to create a fan zone on the Pier Head for England’s World Cup semi-final match against Croatia on Wednesday, 11 July.

Big screens will be erected in the shadow of the city’s Three Graces for thousands of supporters to watch the nation’s biggest football game since England played West Germany at the same stage of the competition in 1990.

Mayor Joe Anderson said: “Our city has football in its DNA and naturally there’s huge excitement and anticipation about this game.

“I’ve been really keen to give people the opportunity to come together with others in the sunshine at the city’s best known landmark, and cheer on Gareth Southgate’s team to victory in Russia.

“We’ve worked really hard in a really short timescale in the middle of our events season to pull together something which will give people the opportunity to stay in the city centre after work and watch the game with their colleagues and friends.”

Fans will be searched on entry, no alcohol can be taken inside the event and only sealed plastic bottles of water will be permitted. Alcohol can be purchased on site by over 18s where it will be served in plastic bottles and cups and there will be concessions selling food.  Temporary toilet facilities will also be installed.

The Pier Head fan zone will open from 4pm until the end of the game, access will not be permitted once the site is full and no re-admittance will be allowed.
