‘LOST TRIBE OF EVERTON & SCOTTIE ROAD’, CAPSTONE THEATRE, SHAW STREET, LIVERPOOL

2, 3 & 4 NOVEMBER 2017 (DOORS 7.30 FOR 8PM)

‘Lost Tribe of Everton & Scottie Road’ is a new play by Ken Rogers and Mike Howl that captures the folklore of a 1960s slum clearance programme of almost biblical proportions that all but wiped out the tightly packed terraced houses of Everton and its famous neighbour, the self-styled independent republic of Scotland Road.

Over 125,000 were dispatched to new towns and council estates. Those remaining suffered High Rise Hell and while Everton would ultimately emerge with a determined new focus, this was down to the people, not the planners.

This play proves that humour, an indefatigable spirit, and a sheer love of life can inspire communities to rise above the worst life can throw at them. Based on two best selling local books, you will be taken on a time machine journey, reminded of classic street games and rituals, revisit those famous Saturday morning cinema matinees, sit once more in one of district’s legendary corner pubs, and grasp the defiant spirit of the powerful matriarchs who, through the toughest of times, kept their families on an even keel. Play scenes are linked with filmed memories, proving that the ‘Lost Tribe of Everton & Scottie Road’ will never forget their spiritual home.
