The third celebrity event in the Tenth Anniversary season of the Orchestra dell’Arte promises to be a concert to remember: a fully-staged performance of Puccini’s most glorious and romantic opera, Madama Butterfly, with four star soloists from Welsh National Opera to take the lead roles and singers from Flat Pack Opera in the supporting roles.
Puccini was entranced with the idea of music in the theatre – he decided that this was the way forward for his own career. The well-known story of the initial ecstatic meeting of Lt Pinkerton and Cio-Cio-San and the subsequent betrayal, humiliation and tragic ending has become a staple of every major opera company. Puccini has three works in the list of the world’s top five favourite operas.
PS remember to bring the Kleenex!!
