Echo Arena Liverpool will host the biggest awards night in the sporting calendar, BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2017.

Presenters Gary Lineker, Clare Balding and Gabby Logan will be back to present and celebrate the best sporting achievements from the past year with Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds opening the star studded evening and Rag ‘n’ Bone Man also performing in front of an audience of nearly 11,000, while broadcasting live to millions on BBC One, from Echo Arena Liverpool on Sunday 17 December.

The 12 sportsmen and women will now go on to compete for the public vote on the night of the live show. Last year saw Wimbledon champion Sir Andy Murray crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year for a record third time, ahead of triathlete Alistair Brownlee and showjumper Nick Skelton.

Votes can be cast by phone or online on the evening of Sunday 17 December. The number to call for each contender will be revealed during the programme. There is no voting via email, Red Button or by text. For further information go to bbc.co.uk/sportspersonality.

The industry panel for this year’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year included World Cup winning rugby union player Maggie Alphonsi, Olympic gold medallist Darren Campbell and Paralympic gold winner Danny Crates.

They sat alongside sports broadcasters Colin Murray and Eleanor Oldroyd, and the Chair of UK Sport Dame Katherine Grainger.

Also on the 2017 panel were newspaper sport editor Dominic Hart (Daily Mirror), sports writer Alyson Rudd (The Times) and sports news editor Laura Williamson (Daily Mail). Representing the BBC were Director of Sport Barbara Slater, Head of TV Sport Philip Bernie and Sports Personality Executive Editor Carl Doran.

As the event is a live BBC presentation there will be limited opportunity to leave seats for comfort breaks; however the BBC will work with the venue team to let you know when there is appropriate time to leave the seats. This time will be limited and we would ask you to be patient with the venue staff as you return to your seats during the show.
