Ilya, a shell-shocked soldier who is unable to drink, returns home from the Russian front line in Chechnya. On his arrival to his provincial hometown, he is thrust into a political maelstrom. 'The Drunks' is a deeply funny, political play about those who are in power, and what they are prepared to do to stay there. It is incredibly dark, as all good Russian texts are, and has never been more relevant than it is right now with its representation of scheming politicians, media control and manipulation of people's opinions.
