Football and Dance combine as award-winning international dance company bring UK premiere to Liverpool.

Amazing contemporary dance will ‘invade’ Toxeth’s FireFit Hub pitch
during the UK premiere of THE MATCH by Barcelona based international dance company VERO CENDOYA Dance Co. ONE PERFORMANCE only.

Award-winning Liverpool arts organisation Hope Street Ltd will bring the multi-award winning Vero Cendoya Dance Company to Liverpool, presenting the UK premier of their exceptional dance theatre performance THE MATCH.

Football takes centre stage in this remarkable contemporary dance piece, where 5 professional dancers will perform with 5 actual footballers and even a referee. But this is no ordinary football match. In fact, it might turn out to be much more than just a game of two halves, where the performers make their own rules…

The performance will be held in the indoors Sports Hall at the FireFit Hub, a state of the art, world-class facility for young people in the heart of Toxteth. This is a family friendly performance for all ages and will take place Sunday 22nd October at 7:30pm.
 

THE MATCH is inspired by the film “The Referee”, directed by Paolo Zucca, and has toured to sell out audiences all over Europe and in South America. This production has been awarded the PRIZE TO BEST PERFORMANCE OF FIRA DE TARREGA FESTIVAL 2015, and is the winner of the CRITICS AWARDS 2015 for the best Art Street Performance. It was also nominated for the *MAX Awards in three categories: Best Cast, Best Show Revelation, and Best Authorship Revelation.
*NB: The MAX awards are the most prestigious theatre awards in Spain.

And since football has always been intrinsically linked to the spirit of Liverpool - what better city to host the UK premiere of THE MATCH?’

THE MATCH is presented as part of On The Verge, an exciting, biennial festival which showcases provocative new performance work in unusual places and spaces across the city of Liverpool. The festival is produced by Hope Street Ltd. and this year takes place from 19-22 October 2017, in addition to ‘THE MATCH’ the festival will also present work by emerging artists in a variety of unique spaces including a bus, a karaoke bar, a locker room, a bar and even beneath a gigantic skirt.

The performance will take place at FireFit Hub, a brilliant youth and sports centre in the heart of Toxteth, as part of Hope Street Ltd’s commitment to working with local communities, whilst providing young people and vulnerable individuals the opportunity to engage in the arts. Free tickets will be donated to FireFit Hub for their users in the Toxteth community.
