With original songs and stories, The Washing Up takes an absurd look at the politics and practice of this every day act. Audiences have told us that it is “bonkers and brilliant”, so please do join us to explore what lies beneath the surface bubbles and find out whose turn it is to do the dishes and how they should be done. Every kitchen sink has a story to tell, of power struggles and pots and pans, of greasy plates and moments of quiet contemplation…

The Washing Up was premiered at Your Place, Brighton Festival in 2018 and has also been performed in a range of community settings including Brighton Youth Centre, Hurstpierpoint Church, Pavilions (Brighton’s Drug and Alcohol service provide) and The Railway Land Trust in Lewes. Our 2019 tour of the North West and the South East includes visits to The John Thaw Studio Theatre at Manchester University and Camden People’s Theatre in London.

The Washing Up is a collaboration between small performance adventures, a theatre company working with artists and participants in addiction recovery, and cascade creative recovery., a peer led creative support organisation working to support recovery.

“funny, irreverent, restless and inventive” - BN1 Magazine.

“The Washing Up, one of my highlights of this year’s Brighton Festival…a generous, ego-free ensemble performance, and the best of people’s theatre” - Colin Grant, Guardian writer.
